Azerbaijan to ban broadcasting of foreign TV series

Azerbaijan will ban the broadcasting of foreign TV series to protect the rights of domestic filmmakers and promote the country's film industry, a senior official said Friday.

"Foreign TV series often contradict Azerbaijan's mentality and impede the development of the domestic film industry," said Nushirevan Maharramli, chairman of the country's National Broadcasting Council.

The ban is expected to enter into force at the beginning of next May, he said, adding that the government has allocated grants to the makers of local TV series.
