Virgin, Jetstar to resume Bali flights to and from Australia

Australia's airline Virgin Blue and Jetstar announced that flights to and from Bali of Indonesia will resume on Saturday, after volcanic ash caused their cancellation.

Ash from an erupting volcano in East Java was blowing into the flight path at Denpasar airport in Indonesia, causing delays for thousands of travelers on Friday.

The Darwin Volcanic Ash Advisory Center in Northern Territory of Australia, which has been monitoring the volcanic ash, expected it will have dispersed by Saturday evening.

Virgin Blue has been resuming flights on Saturday and Jetstar is going ahead with a flight from Perth of Australia at a revised time, but it is yet to make a decision on other flights.

According to Chris Davies from the Darwin Volcanic Ash Advisory Center, the ash is dissipating.

"We're continuing to update airlines with our latest information," he told ABC News on Saturday.

"At the moment we're telling them that we'll no longer be able to detect ash by this evening unless something major happens at the volcano itself, which would change the amount of ash in the atmosphere."
