Kabul suicide bomb claims four victims

Three civilians and a police officer were killed, and many others were injured, in the attack near Darulaman Palace

A suicide bomb attack on a convoy of foreign troops in the Afghan capital Kabul has killed at least four people.

At least three civilians were killed in the attack near Darulaman Palace on the south-west outskirts of Kabul, according to officials and eyewitnesses.

"Three civilians and a police officer were killed in [the] Kabul attack today," an interior ministry spokesman said on his Twitter account.

"It was a very strong bomb," said eyewitness Gulam Saki. "Three civilians were killed: a man, a woman and one child, and two bodies are still under the vehicles."

A spokesman for the Nato-led International Security Assistance Force said some of its forces were also among the casualties but gave no further details.

"Several ISAF members are recorded as casualties and there are also several local Afghan casualties," he said.

The Taliban claimed responsibility in a text message sent to the media shortly after the bombing.

Two Nato helicopters landed at the scene to airlift several casualties. Other victims were treated on stretchers laid out on the pavement.

Violence across Afghanistan is at its worst since the start of the war 10 years ago, according to the United Nations, despite the presence of more than 130,000 foreign troops.
