Iranian protesters enter British embassy compound

Angry students from Iranian universities Tuesday stormed into the British embassy compound in Tehran and dragged down the British flag, witnesses said.

Chanting "Death to England" and other anti-Britain slogans, protesting students clashed with riot place and some climbed over the gate of the compound, the witnesses said.

Footage broadcast by local TV showed some protesters smashing windows of the embassy building.

The semi-official Fars news agency reported that riot police failed to prevent the students from entering the embassy.

The rampage came after Iran's Majlis (parliament) overwhelmingly approved a proposal last Wednesday to consider reducing ties with Britain.
